All the pdfs/ocrs and their html version reside at Groklaw. How long will we be able to snag them and do the transcribing? Once done, then what? I have a 9-page Comes almost done, so I'll sent it to PJ in the next day or 2. Do I grab another 1 or 5 or 10?

I think someone needs to ask the folks at ibiblio how long the site will be hosted. I'm not sure who is keeping up with the domain name registration either, if it's not PJ. The answers to those questions will probably tell us whether we need to mirror things here or not (although I'd guess that the internet archive probably has a decent mirror of public material from groklaw).

Just want to remind some that Groklaw is in Library of Congress's Historic Internet Materials Collection. The articles was ... www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20100406141939511&query=library+of+congressI don't know currently what level of preservation can be expected or what its timeliness is. But it may not make sense to devote effort to what is already being accomplished elsewhere. I took a quick look, but cannot confirm that Groklaw is yet in the LOC digital archives. There is a section for Legal Blawgs and I came across many others there, but no Groklaw. I could be blind or looking in the wrong place. It does happen. I have posted a question to Library of Congress - Digital Reference Section, concerning this. They say they generally respond within 5 business days. I will let you all know when I find something.

Good that I'm not the only one. Toured/searched the LoC site and couldn't find any reference to Groklaw. Also looked at whois for GK and I think it shows domain is okay 'til 2014-10-04. Is that May or October? (not exactly my bailiwick so I could be totally wrong)

If you guys have a better way of doing this, please let me know. Doing transcriptions on a forum is going to be particularly awkward.

I was thinking Google Docs, not a bad idea. There's a strong irony in using Google Docs for this. I like it. As regards how long the Groklaw site would remain up there was an email interview with PJ that was published in some of the news articles covering Groklaw's closure, where she said that the site would remain but that the forums would be removed after a couple of weeks. I don't know if that means that we'll still have access to the Comes work there or not, though.

Could you provide a source to that or those articles please? (The email interview with PJ that is)

Hmm, if the forums get removed, we will lose all the comments.
I think they are archived in the LoC.
My opinion is that nothing will happen for a little while until everyone is sure that Groklaw is done for sure.
I'm thinking of emailing MW and asking for his opinion on what we should do and just let him know that we are here now.

Got a response from LOC ---------------- Public Services Division Law Library of Congress Library of Congress 101 Independence Ave., SE Washington, D.C. 20540-3120 Telephone: 202-707-5079 URL: www.loc.gov/lawLibrarian 3: Thank you for your question. The Law Library of Congress has, indeed, been collecting archival images of the Groklaw blog (< www.groklaw.net/ >) since April 2010, through permission granted to the Law Library by those who manage Groklaw. However, the Law Library was not and has not, to date, been granted permission by Groklaw to publicly display these collected images on the Legal Blawg Archive, at < www.loc.gov/collection/legal-blawgs-website-archives/ >. If this permission arrangement were to change in the future, we will be sure to contact you directly with this information. If you have any additional questions regarding this matter, please contact Matthew Braun, Senior Legal Research Specialist at the Law Library of Congress, at 202-707-3190 or mbra@loc.gov. We hope that this information is helpful to you. Thank you again for your question.
