Oracle America, Inc. v. Google Inc. 3:10-cv-3561 U.S. District Court California Northern District (Oakland)
Assigned to: Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler Reassigned to: Judge Hon. William H. Alsup
This section is for discussion of the Oracle v Google case.
The current status of the case is that Google won but Oracle, backed up by the usual suspects, notably Microsoft, didn't like the result and an appeal is in progress.
Oracle is trying to claim that copyright can cover an API even if the implementation is completely different. If they succeed in this claim we can all give up working with computers and take up tap dancing.

and here I thought I'd be the first out here with this. I should have known better... Ars Technica article
This appears to be monstrously good news, other than the statement from Oracle that they intend to appeal (you're shocked, I know).

Oracle can believe whatever they want, but Oracle is still wrong. I just hope that upon appeal that higher courts will not overturn today's good verdict.

I have an alert set on Copyright at the New York Times for reasons that I'll keep hidden for now. I'm doing something that certain people would consider underhanded
