eric76 has pointed out on the other Groklaw page that this hearing was scheduled for today at 2:00pm.
How do we know if we got a volunteer to sit in on the hearing? I presume that volunteers all emailed PJ with their notes. Does anybody have any info on this?

I was just looking at the "Newspicks" board and thinking about how that and "Off Topic" could get so out of control. We could sometimes end up with 10-15 threads a week if we keep creating new threads for each. This is only day 1 and there are already 5 threads. Should we rethink how those boards are organized or do you think this will not be a problem?

I agree with creating folders for each of the active cases. Thinks: Do we want to download and archive stuff from GL before it disappears? If so where? I started a "Cases" category only visible to moderators at the moment until i get input from others on how it should be laid out. As far as archiving stuff from GL, i agree it should be preserved but also do not know where or how. I have some spare hard drive space (currently not redundant) and would be willing to help save off some of it if needed until we can find a more permanent home. (For the record. It sucks talking like Gorklaw is no more. I hope this is only a temporary solution. But it would be worse to absolutely treat this as temporary and end up losing everything by lack of action)

How to Reform the NSA
Do you think these steps are enough to mitigate the damage done and prevent future damages? Do you think these steps will even happen?

I agree. I think there is a time and place for everything. "politics surrounding Snowdon, Greenwald and Miranda" and the closing of Groklaw are all relevant to the current situation. However politics concerning rep/dem or pro life/pro choice or other controversial political topics are certainly not relevant and should remain on the no-no list.
Any other thoughts?

What about zombie threads? should we disallow posting to a thread after it has been dead for some period of time?

I think the first thing we need is writers. PJ took on this major role in the original groklaw with a lot of help from others. But we need someone(s) that knows what to do once we have the information gathered.

NC State is a pretty decent engineering school and there are quite a few alumni from there within the government ranks. Seems like a deal like this would benefit both parties, financially. The only shocking part is that NC State was willing to take the public criticism that is coming. Or maybe the average person won't notice things like this.

Next they will go after YouTube in Germany. That was exactly my thoughts. These are the same arguments made for why YouTube should be responsible for copyrighted material that shows up without the owners' consent. It's not Google's problem to proactively take the offending content down. It is their responsibility to take it down retroactively once a takedown notice has been received. The RapidShare situation should be no different.

Fortunately I don't think they are that cleaver - and there is not the amount of money to be made from subversive operators as there is from massive data centers to monitor an entire nations telephone/internet traffic. Not sure if that first part is you being just a bit naive or just wishful thinking, but i think there is definitely a case to be made for that second part. "They" have entirely too many resources dedicated to do exactly that.
