Horse manure. What you mean is TechDirt didn't scream about the evils of Software Patents. Instead TechDirt took a far more proactive stance, which WOULD WEAKEN ALL PATENTS. to me, that's far more useful. Programmers don't understand that hardware has been hurt just as badly. Wayne madhatter.ca

Please, refrain from grouping *all* programmers in one bucket.
Some programmers understand a lot more than we are given credit for, as a group.
We aren't all kids or former kids with no social skills living in the basement of our mother's house living and breathing computer usage and failing to launch, as they say.
Beside, as a kid, I was a mad scientist, making all manor of crazy things (in bathtubs), even a useful not really nameless chemical once tamed by a guy named Noble (name misspelled so as not to trigger certain keywords for automatic capture by you know who, and I don't mean Tom Riddle).

Sorry, you are right. It just seems that I spend too much time explaining that the problems are not unique to one field of study only.
Let's face it, whatever patents were originally meant to do, they've morphed into a means of preventing competition from arising. And they've gotten too damned good at that.

Oh, good grief. You thought I meant that Techdirt was on the wrong side. I can see how you came to that conclusion. I apologize for confusing you. What I meant to convey was that the article source was Techdirt. And just so you know, I spent a few enjoyable years doing Design Verification Testing on hardware, so I have some familiarity therewith. And four days ago I changed the oil, filters and plugs in my car.
