I know, I'm going to sound like a bit of a luddite. So be it. But while the argument rages about how much privacy we're losing, these devices make it simple to just give it away. I can do without the vast majority of the whole "Internet of Things" revolution.

Don't worry too much about sounding like a luddite. You are in good company. Sometimes the people who are most resistant to certain new things, are that way not because they are ignorant or just being stubborn, but because they actually know what is really going on.
I am quite aware of how reliable drive-by-wire can be. I also know that auto-makers are unwilling to spend the extra (in materials and engineering effort) that would actually be required to make it more reliable than mechanical systems. As a result, I am unwilling to drive any car that uses drive-by-wire.

The new security regulations that the EU has adopted should change things. I'm working on some Canadian politicians to get change enacted here as well.
