To a certain extent it's a side issue. Yesterday's backstabbing of Microsoft by Apple is bigger. Wayne madhatter.cs

Guess I missed that. What happened? I'll have an analysis posted tomorrow. Basically you can ignore the iPhone 5S and 5C, they are unimportant. Wayne madhatter.ca

Wayne madhatter.caWell, we could always ignore the 5c and 5s. They were pretty much guaranteed to be incremental updates. The 5c being the attempt to pull in the people looking for cheaper phones. Still it will be a few weeks before we see what impact they have. Lots of dedicated Apple lovers out there. Of course by going to a plastic shell at a time when the newest, shiniest, most advertised phone is going to indestructible Kevlar may not have been the most opportune moment.

Ah, so that's what you were talking about. Yeah phones aren't all that important. Not a lot of work gets done on them. Still lots of money to be made there, from a consumerism perspective.
Tablets though. Yeah, there may be a future there. PC sales are shrinking, but not gone. Although, as convertible tablets take off and the prices come down. We may see those take over in the office. now we have dual boot Android/Windows convertible tablets. That's going to be interesting. I expect MS will want to kill off that breed.

The phones are important from an immediate sales standpoint. But the change in the Productivity Suite marketplace will have a far larger impact over the long term. It is going to impact Android and Linux as well, but in a smaller way, since LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and KOffice are free to download. As I said, Apple's making iWork free is a direct attack on Microsoft. And it's going to hurt Microsoft really badly. I'm surprised Apple hasn't made iWork free for the OSX market as well...
